Here’s a piece of pyrography I have (almost) finished. The piece is inspired by the Rudyard Kipling poem Law of the Jungle from his novel The Jungle Book. I’m going to do a series of Pyrography pieces inspired by poems, this being the 1st. Speaking to industry at the degree show really gave me a confidence boost. DR.ME seemed really interested in the pyrography work, so it’s given me an extra motivation to keep going at it (not that I was lacking of course!!). Anyways hope you like it!!
okeyyy, here’s a renewed attempt to get back into tumblr…this is a spray painted piece that I did a few weeks ago for the degree show at 2022NQ, though I didn’t end up using this one as I made a mess of it shortly after taking this photo of it by trying to put some shading onto the planet. I’m glad I took this pic 1st though
Ok I am fed up of Tumblr taking an absolute age to upload anything, when it actually does upload anything!! so here’s my facebook page/blog for my illustration work, I just find it much more efficient and reliable than tumblr. here’s one of my illustrations for the NMP, it’s an illustration of the sun during a solar flare. I had started it as a water colour/ink painting but as I started editing it in photoshop I felt it looked alot better without the painting and just using photoshop brushes. I feel this one has turned out really well, it looks completely different from what I had imagined but looks much brighter than it was if I had carried on with the painting. I used images of the sun as reference to get the colours right.
Here’s the finished piece for the CD cover I was working on. I felt it went alright, though it took a few attempts to get it right. I found it difficult working with colours, being colourblind doesn’t help on that front..I found that the colours seemed to dry alot darker than I anticipated, which is the main reason I had to restart a few times. But in all I enjoyed working on the project and the band it was produced for liked the work as well
I went to this tutorial this morning and found it quite helpful, it was good to be able to given so much to think about on the subject of making our own way in the design industry. I found that although there was things I had thought about before there were other things that hadn’t crossed my mind at all!! For example charging for late payments, contract details, thinking about whether a project is even worth taking or if it would be something So it was very beneficial to be able to make a list of all the things that need thinking about when it comes to going freelance or setting up a business. It has definitely given me a kick be more proactive in promoting myself and networking more as well
Ok we are quite far into the NMP now and I’ve been working away, when yesterday it hit me that a) I’m still not sure exactly how I am going about this one and b) that after I spoke to my tutor at the beginning of the project, I may have decided on a format that is too big…..for the 2nd time this year!!! I am still really not feeling happy with this one at all, I cant quite settle into it and even if I do I am not sure if I will be able to get what I have in mind done or not…hopefully these fears will come to nothing but anyways here is my 1st illustration for it. There is still work to be done on it though!
Call me a tree hugger but I found this documentary pretty scary!! Which is the main reason for me posting about it. The animation used looks fairly simple but I think it is effective in the way it visualizes the issues and statistics that are raised in the narration, to a certain degree. But for such a serious subject the way the documentary is animated doesn’t reflect the gravity of the subject, which may make it seem a little less preachy maybe? Either way the issue of resources is one that is ignored far too much and it has given me ideas for the back drop for the storyline I am working with for the NMP
I replied to an advert on gumtree by a band that wanted a CD cover designing for a new album, their music is influenced by the sound of the 1960’s and they reflected this through their lyrics. They wished me to use their lyrics to inspire the imagery I used for the cover. The song they sent me is about getting back to 1964 and dreaming of listening to music on transistor radios, they also mention in the lyrics other imagery related to the 1960s as well. It was quite difficult working with such bright colours (considering that I am colourblind) but I felt that it went OK and the designs express the meaning of the song quite well. These are only the initial ideas, the final piece has yet to be produced but I will post it as soon as possible!!
I went to a photoshop tutorial on Monday, most of it was aimed towards retouching fashions photography. It was quite interesting to use photoshop in a way that I haven’t used it before, even if I wasn’t very good at it. I figured out the clone tool pretty quickly though other tools like the bloat tool, that I don’t use that often, I’m in need of bit more practice with
I'm a 2+2 student, hence why you may not recognize me. I am always looking for ways to develop everything I do involving art and design, whether its doing something completely new or just finding an alternative way to apply material to paper. I try to take influence from everything around me, from a piece of art and/or design I haven't seen before to the mood/feel of the place I am in. I am also colourblind which I guess can prove interesting for other people when looking at my work, I guess it can look like a big clash of colours to everyone else but look fine to me! Which I think has had a huge effect on my work in terms of my use of colour
